Helping St Basil’s This Christmas

Helping St Basil’s This Christmas

At Christmas, it’s easy to get wrapped up in ourselves and our families, there’s always so much to do. And the team at Island Delight are no exception – except this year we decided both as individuals and as a company, to pull together and do something charitable at this time of year.

We chose to help St Basil’s, a local charity that helps young people avoid homelessness by providing support and accommodation. St Basil’s rely on a raft of services from volunteers to donations, and they are responsible for keeping many young people off the streets in the first place. But of course, everything they do has financial implications behind it – they constantly need help and donations of one kind or another.

One small way to help is to provide a Christmas shoebox. The idea is simple – just take an empty shoebox, and fill it with things that would be useful to their clients. For babies, a box may contain toys, socks, hats, teethers etc .  For 16 – 25 year olds, we’re looking at luxuries from chocolate and make up, through to underwear, toothbrushes, toothpaste, nightwear… the list goes on.

Not only do these boxes provide essential items for people, it reminds them that they are being thought about – that they matter. And in a world where so many have so much, it’s the very least we can all do. If you’re interested in doing this too –take a look at the following link on the St Basils website. http://www.stbasils.org.uk/giftsuggestions
