Success at caribbean food awards
Birmingham-based Cleone Foods Ltd has won the best Caribbean manufacturer category at the Caribbean Food Awards 2006 in London.
The prestigious awards recognise the very best in Caribbean food and cooking throughout Britain and attract entries from the country's top restaurants, chefs, and manufacturers.
Cleone Foods was highly commended for its Island Delight Caribbean patties which are made using a traditional recipe and authentic ingredients.
Wade Lyn, managing director and founder of Cleone Foods, said: "We are delighted to win the best Caribbean manufacturer award and would like to thank everyone who voted for us. This award is testament to our ongoing commitment to the very finest ingredients and dedication to authentic Caribbean recipes."
Patties are at the heart of traditional Caribbean cuisine and part of every day life across the islands; from Jamaica to Antigua. Island Delight patties are made using a Caribbean recipe based on a light pastry crust filled with fresh ingredients like chicken, lamb, vegetables and Caribbean spices and then cooked until the pastry is golden.
As a company Cleone Foods has a turnover of £2.1 million and currently manufactures 120,000 Caribbean patties every week at its facility in Hockley. Island Delight patties currently account for over 55% of the UK market share and boast an impressive national retail network which includes Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Iceland, and Somerfield.
Island Delight patties are currently available with seven delicious fillings, including vegetable, chicken, beef, lamb, salt fish, halal chicken and halal lamb.
